WRITING WORKSHOP OVERVIEW:

Following the conference, the Scientific Advisory Committee is organizing a two day writing workshop on Thursday and Friday, December 10-11, 2009. The workshop is open to all conference attendees with a special emphasis on attendance by presenters. It is envisioned to be a first step in the development of publishable manuscripts for the participating African influenza researchers. The workshop's focus will be a series of didactic lectures on the basics of a scientific manuscript-abstract, introduction, methods, results, discussion, and references. Other topics will include advice on how to construct tables and figures, choosing a journal, and the basics of a journal submission. Mentored small group sessions will complement the didactics and allow select conference presenters to begin to develop their findings into manuscripts.
